Bought a 02 F550 XL 4x4 95Kmi. with the idm, pcm, starter,Ac compressor, and fuel pump missing. The truck has also been setting for quite sometime. I have replaced all things above as well as the cps. Truck will not start.

While cranking icp will go up to 3000psi and DC will go as high as 65ish%. Hpop Res. is full. Also have fuel in the bowl. A few other things I have found odd. My scanner will not communicate with the GEM and there is no VSM on the firewall behind the radio. Looks like it didnt come from the factory with one? The studs do not have the paint cleaned off them and there are no plugs for it? I assumed all 02s and 03s all have VSMs??? Is it possible it doesnt just b/c its a 550? One other thing I tried was swapping out the fuse box as I have had them cause no starts before, but no this time. What am I missing? Can anybody confirm that 550s would not have a VSM. Thanks for any help.

Check fuel pressure at the heads, not the bowl.

Could be a standpipe or check valve(s) issue.

I will check pressure at the heads. Yes injectors pass buzz test fine. My other thought is I keep going back to the VSM. I know that other 02 trucks will not start without it plugged in (Ive tried it before). The pcm I had and used was a VDH4 from a 02 f350 WITH a VSM. Possible its searching for one and this truck doesnt have it??? Can anybody check the pcm code on a 02 f550 and get back with me. Thanks.

That PCM code is a big red flag in your situation for sure, I would eliminate that one. Been working on a 550 so I'm curious about this.

Went here http://powerstrokenation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34810

02 550 auto lists a BXE2,3,5 with BXE2 Ford part # 2F719T0506 but no other info on family etc. for those PCM's, several other PCM codes are also lacking the family information.

The more I think about it keeps leading back to the PCM. Everything else is there for it to start. I will track down a 550 pcm first of the week. It has to be the 350 pcm is looking for a VSM.

Called ford and ran the VIN. Part # for the trucks ecm was 2c3z-ec. That superceeded to 2c3f-EF or EC. Should be a BXE2. However, BXE2-5 should work. I found a BXE2 will post back when it gets here and I try it.

Ok. BXE2 pcm is in. Truck still is a no start. A few more odd things. It takes quite awhile during cranking for the tach to just barely move. Another thing is with key off and doors open there is no dome light. As soon as you turn the key to on pos. the dome light comes on.(shrug)

With this pcm during cranking icp will go to 3000 and DC up to around 30%. I have not pulled the ipr yet. It seems to be functioning. Should I pull it anyway. Any other ideas? I am just about stumped.

I was working on it outside today. Didnt check pressure since the pcm showed up and wanted to try it. It was cold out today so time was limited. I will be checking as soon as I get a chance to work on it again. I know its not good, but the truck also will not start with ether.

Then its a mechanical issue. If it wont pop off on ether, you dont have any compression.

Got it running. Has smoothed out fairly well. Im pretty sure it needs o-rings and while at idle the icp is 550 and DC is down to 5%. I know there is something not quite right there. IPR? Any other ideas. Thanks

The problem (at least I think) is the DC at idle is only 5%. I think I had read somewhere that this is a drain back problem.

It is missing out on the road, but after the setting for so long I expect a few bad injectors or at the very least o-rings.

The fix was way more ether then I wanted to use. Everything was there for it to start. It just wasnt quite able to fire off on its own. I havent run a compression test, but it has more blow by then I want to see However, it is clearing up as I run it.

The lower the DC% means the pump is not working as hard to maintain the desired ICP.

It does not seem like an issue to me.
