I finally decided to buy a new to me truck. I got me an 08 2wd standard cab xl. I plan on swapping the doors with all the power options. Also I need to purchase the tuner/delete stuff and ladder bars or maybe 4 link it. Its going to be my dd and I do plan on pulling and racing some. So has anybody else built up a 2wd 6.4 yet. Its already a fun little truck to drive, once the turbos start spooling. My wifes 7.3 Ex pulls on it the first 20 feet because the turbo spools faster(nonboosted launch). Its going to take alot of work to get this thing to get traction on the street once I get the tuner on it. Ill get a pic up later. Loving it already!

Ordered an SCT w/ IDP tunes and a 5 inch downpipe back exhaust. Should have tomm or thu. Trying to figure out on the paint scheme and wheels. Im thinking of putting the 20's on it from the Excursion and painting Everything white, grill, bumpers, mirrors, cowl and the head light surrounds. And tinting the windows to a 20%.

Does anyone know if I can stager the tire sizes? I have 4 wheel abs w/ traction control. I want to run a 305 out back with a 265 or 85 up front. how far off can the height be and abs and traction control still work?

2wd 6.4 has been done and done successfully. Caltracs go a long way for traction.

Look the up and check out the way they are designed. There might be some other people that have this same design as Caltrac, but I haven't seen them. I am in the process of building a 08 Supercab. I got a set of Caltracs in recently, but had a little fender bender so it might be a couple more weeks before I get a chance to try them out. I am not saying Caltracs are better than anyone elses traction bars or ladder bars. I just had a look at them, read up on them and I like the way they are designed.

Get you some caltracs. They hook up awesome. Dont really do much for shifting, but for a 2wd I would do traction over shifting

I hope they do hook up. The problem with the 2wd is, if you can't plant the tires, once they break loose the start spinning so fast and changing gears the trans get screwed up. It will shift up to 3rd or 4th and then the tires catch traction, then it wants to drop back down into a lower gear, then it starts hopping LOL. It gets a little rough sometimes so most of the time I do manually shift to try to prevent all this. Hopefully I can get enough traction now to prevent this. I will find out in a couple of weeks.

Will the caltracs work if I do alittle trck pulling with it? Ill probably just do our local pull in the fall and maybe one other during the summer. I also know what you mean about the trans getting screwed up. just doing a burn out really screws with it.

The caltracs will work fine for pulling.

Ryan, here is my latest adventures. Oak tree get out of my way LOL Oh well, I have been wanting that FX4 front end anyway. Kind of a pricey way to get it though.

I put the tuner on it today and dam. The tiny 245 tires don't stand a chance. The stock limited slip doesn't hold all the power. But I'm loving it so far!

allanb what size of tires and wheels are on that? I like(other then the damage) how it sits

It has a 3"/5" DJM flip kit with 275/55 R20 on the front and 305/50 R20 on back. It has 10" rims but I will change them out to 9" or maybe even 8" if I can find some I like.

I thought I had lifted a head already today but I found the waterpump outlet to the heater core cracked. Its a plastic tube the runs in front of the motor. Split right on the seem. So I got that ordered and figured I may as well get the egr delete as well since coolant will be drained anyway. I did haul some scrap metal yesterday and I asked for my weight and they told me 6800lbs. Didnt think anything of it at first but my ticket says I had 7xxlbs of scrap so is this my loaded or unloaded weight? I was at a half tank of fuel.

That would be loaded. You have a standard cab. I would think you would be in the neighborhood of 5400lbs. Maybe a little lighter. I think most CC 4x4 weight in the 7500lbs give or take a couple hundred pounds. I think the weight should be inside the drivers door.

I looked up curb weight before I bought it and it said base is 56xx. Wasnt sure if that was with the diesel or gas. That should put me right around 6000-6100 with half tank of fuel with half tank of fuel, me and my 2 year old.

I'm only phone right now so i can't see it real good. It I deff need them. Went to the track Friday and my quickest pass was a 14.9 with traction control on at 99 MPH. This was with stock tires at stock pressure. I kinda wanted to see what it could do. I did a pass on stock setting and ran a 16.3 at 99 MPH with TC on.
