Mine has 65k- I notice a shimmy when I brake hard. Thinking of replacing the shock itself - ultimate goals are 2.5 level, so I'll stick with stock placement of stabilizer...what have you guys had success with? Looking between Fox and Carli, price difference isn't awful, but saw a Bilstein 5100 for significantly less. What are the mild guys running in place of stock?

Look at your brakes, not your stabilizer, as the root cause of that issue.

usually the case-yes.

however; i am fighting the identical issue on my 2012. Brand new brakes all the way around, new drag link and lower tie-rod end. still the same shudder/shimmy when brakes are applied. My next step is track rod joint, then steering stabilizer.

I will, thanks. Last time I looked the pads were fine, even wear and all. Given the way I drive it, they appear to be lasting forever. Really just wondering what the life span of the stabilizer is, because mine is definitely OEM and looking a little crusty.

9 times out of 10 last shimmy under braking is caused by pad build up on the rotor.
That's what's most times mistaken as a warped rotor...which rarely actually happens these days.

Pardon my ignorance - on all the cars I've had I've never had pad buildup - the pads never lasted long enough and I either let the car go before it needed rotors or just swapped them - is the buildup just a matter of cleaning them up with some brake cleaner and steel wool or fine sandpaper?

Google removing brake pad deposits or friction material deposits. You'll find plenty of info. If it works then you save a few bucks, if not you have really clean rotors. LOL
