i have heads that are 18mm dowels that i just had done. but now im thinking about buying a 07 that would be 20mm. can i make these heads work with tappered dowel or does it only work the other way around?

In my 07 motor, one side is 18mm and one side is 20. pretty sure we just used a tapered or step down dowel. Matt I'm sure will chime in...

Ford makes a dowl to be able to mix match them. You have to use the correct rocker box to that head tho.

It'll work both ways. You just put the 20mm part of the dowel in the block and the 18mm will be out. Or vice versa.

Make sure your head gasket dowel hole sizes match your dowels.
The dowels that come in the kit work when swapping only one way, i don't recall which. We had a truck I had to have custom stepped dowels made in a pinch instead of waiting several days for the different gasket set.

It's definitely not a one-size-fits-all when you start mixing and matching heads.
