Hi everyone. I am faily new to the psa family. I purchased a very low clean e99 f350 cclb 4x4 lariat 2 months ago and know I have the opportunity to get into a 2005 f350 xlt short bed 4x4 just under 113,000 miles. Its a Gf of my wifes who can not afford the gas anymore. She bought it in april for 20k and needs a more fuel efficient car. So I told her I would swap her my wifes 2005 ford explorer with the 4.0 liter v6 with 92,000 miles and give her 5,000.

She has receipts she says for the Head studs. and im not sure what else from the previous owner she got it from. What do you all think. would you do it. my explorer is paid in full and has been for a while but for 5 k I think I would be making out especially since her explorer xlt is only 2wd. opinions please.

tried to post in general 99-2012 forum but it says I don't have permission to so plz don't be mad for posting in here. just want opinions on the trade and 5k deal. all I can tell right now it nees is new tires soon, has a fab tech lift kit etc no tuner or gauges. and the oil dip stick bottom of the part you pull on to remove dipstick is broken. resovoir for coolant is below the minimum and has white powder on the cap but everything else looks good. and the poder is not inside the resovoir. so plese give inputs.

thanks matt I love my 7.3 and new php hydra.

trade

Anyone have anything to say about this trade I can do. Is it worth it or no? please help me out as my wife really wants the truck but I do not want to have her go from our super reliable explorer to a pos. I already know the 6.0 can be a reliability nightmare but not all are bad especially if studs have been done etc.

thanks
matt

the white powder are signs of blown head gaskets if I had to take a guess I would say they put head studs in it but never milled the heads the heads are probably a little warped and that's why it's still puking coolant

Residue could be from when the gaskets blew and it was just never cleaned up. Sometimes its hard to get the residue off.

What gaskets were used?

I am not sure what gaskets were used I have the truck at my place today so im going to look over the service records and also try and find a shop to do a pre purchase inspection. maybe even call my local ford dealer to see the cost of that as well. should only be an hr of labor at any good shop.

I personally wouldn't pay a dealer to piss on the tire of my truck let alone do gaskets. Where you located? I'm sure we have a vendor near you

so i took the truck to get a pre buy inspection a found the laundry list of 6.0 issues. there was a quote for 7,000 to fix it all. oil cooler, egr, head gaskets, thermastat, glows plug harness so they say. its leaking. truck drives fine. but they said all this needs to be fixed. it dose have a oil leak.

she was down for a straight across trade our car for her truck but the bank woul dhave to aprove it first since she just bought the truck in april for 20,000. so she owes a lot still.
