2011 rear end swap

Is a 2011 10.5" direct swap into a 2002 ? Both F350s

No. Width is different.

Will it fit? Yes. But the 2011 spring are longer. And the axle is narrower, so you will need wheel spacers, which aren't cheap.

I believe the '11 axle is wider. Your wheels will stick out further than if you use wheels for an '11 model due to different backspacing. I've been contemplating the same swap. After '05 the axles got wider.

Are the '11 rear brakes larger?

spring length is irrelevant to swapping axles....but yes after 08 the springs are longer

if you have 16" wheels they may not clear the brakes. I KNOW the front 05+ axles MUST use at least a 17" wheel, im not sure about the rear axle

and yes the axle is wider, you will need a wheel with the proper backspacing

Anyone know how much wider? This would be a great option if I could find one with the factory E-locker in it.

I believe they are 1.5 inches wider than 04 down axles. Watch for gear ratios as well. They started to change them from 3.73s on 08 and up trucks.

What about from an 05 axle? Are they the same width? I thought the 05+ axles were wider than the 04 down axles.

What your saying is correct.

I believe that all of the axles under 4x4 trucks with coil sprung front ends 2005 to current are the same through all those years.

The front is three inches wider than 99 to 2004 and the rear is 1.5 inches wider than 99 to 2004.
