Just kicking around the idea. Im in the market for a new truck but, it seems like all the RCLB trucks are 2wd.

I'd like to know the cost, difficulty, and time needed for the transformation. Anybody know?

Post up links if you know of a good thead elsewhere.

Thanks,
Kenny

I was told it's not worth it, and you basically need a donor drivetrain/ truck. But then again it seems a lot of people have done it.

I've done a couple 2wd to 4x4 swaps now & it's not hard. If you can find a doner truck that is the best way to go. Otherwise grind/torch off the 2wd stuff & bolt up the 4x4 stuff.

You'll need....

/ front axle
/ drive shafts
/ swap the tail of your 2wd (involves tearing it apart from the front) or get a good 4x4 tranny (SD needs a 4r100)
/ T-case
/ 4x4 pitman arm
/ 4x4 steering linkage
/ track bar
/ front leaf springs & hangers/shackles

That's about it really. Unless you have an E99 the calipers on a 4x4 & 2wd are the same. Rotors are different. Cost wise, add up the cost on the parts I listed. Is it worth it? well if you plan on keeping the truck & using it then the answer is yes.

Some pics of Trailerhauler's truck (still haven't installed a 4x4 tranny or T case yet but the 60 is in place.

Bringing this one back from the dead, I want to do the same with a 2wd zf6 truck. Am I going to need a 4wd zf6 or can I make this one work?

There's a member on the forum that goes by co04cobra, back when I was looking for a 4x4 zf6 I found out he had some or could get one at a reasonable price. They are not easy to come by, and they aren't cheap either.

That it won't, you'll need a 4r100 T case for a 4r100 & a ZF6 T case for a ZF6. Donno why they didn't make those interchangeable.

I'm pretty sure you can swap the input shaft on the tcase to make it work with a zf easy enough.

Happen to run across this one. I have several 4x4 zf-6s. If you are interested PM me with what you need. Thanks.

im gonna join this discussion now since im looking at going 2wd to 4x4. I can get axles, driveshafts and so all ill need is the transfer case and tail housing for a 4x4 4r100. Ive found some things on ebay and I want to make sure these will actually work.

Manual Transfer Case:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-FORD-F...pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr

Tail Housing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/4R100-FORD-...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item2315b3339e

Will these work for me. I know the transfer case says it will but i want to be 100% sure

Both parts look like they should work, and the t case listing says it should work with your application. I'm not completely sure as I can't remember but you might need an output shaft for the 4r100 as well as the tail housing, but I might be thinking of the zf6.

I have not had good luck with ebay remans. I sell the t-cases for less then that. Also, the tailhousing will work, BUT you have to change the main shaft in the trans as well. If I can help with some parts PM me.

On edit. Just saw its a used t-case not reman. Sorry about that. Still a little high on price. IMO.
