Has anyone done this before? I know it has been talked about a while ago, but I can't find it. Does anyone know exactly what needs to be done/swapped if you have a 2wd and 4wd 4r100 side by side?

Yes, I know.

You need to change the output shaft and the extension housing. Those are the only two parts that are different.

The extension housing just unbolts from the rear of the trans. The output shaft requires a complete teardown of the trans to change.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. Anyone know how much a 2wd output shaft costs and/or where I could find one?

I might have one here shortly I can trade with you. I might be doing the opposite to my trans. I will let you know.

Please do let me know. So would you want to trade output shaft and extension housing if you decide to? And I am not 100% on this yet, but I will hopefully know today.

Not that this is any help because Mark hit it right on the head. I am about to go from 4wd to 2wd with a 5R BTS trans. Just to re-confirm what Mark said. I called BTS, just to see what needed to be done, that is exactly what they told me.

Thanks. I never mind reassurance. I would rather be too sure than still wondering lol

I have a 2wd 4r100 that I'd like to convert to a 4wd!!

We are closer to you than the Suncoast of Florida is. :D

Mark K. was referring to what is needed for the 4R100 transmission itself and that is 100% correct.

For the rest of your truck, to complete the conversion to 4X4 you'll also need:
A transfer case, T case gasket, front and rear drive shifts, front axle assembly with gear ratio that matches your rear axle, T case shifter with linkage and wiring for T case low range switch. More, if you choose shift on the fly instead of a manual 4X4 conversion for your truck.

We stock most of it....
