been thinking about getting a new to me truck wanting to get an obs crew cab but the price for a 4x4 is crazy around here but i can get a 2 wheeler for between 3-4k so i was thinking of doing a conversion my question is would it be easyer to do an 05+ swap since its allready coilsprung up front or should i just stick with leaves up front

If you do a 05+ axle swap you're going to need to swap the coil spring buckets to the 05+ so everything will line up correctly. If you do a leaf spring swap you can install a RSK kit & bolt things up. Leaf sprung will be less involved & take less fab work but neither will be "bolt on" per say on an OBS.

I went through this same thought process with my Dad: besides putting in the front suspension, transfer case, swapping in a SD rear axle, etc., you'll also need to get a 4x4 trans or tear yours completely down to swap tail shafts.

At the end of the day, it's faster, cheaper, and easier to buy a 4x4 OBS, or in my Dad's case, he upgraded to a SD for the same cost, and it was already 4x4.

ON EDIT: I also forgot to mention, OBS 2 wheel drives have a crush zone frame, so the only option is 05+ suspension.

I know of a couple 2wd f350 duallys that were converted to 4x4 using an rsk......

Sent from the left lane with the hammer down...
