My truck has the 4x4 switch you turn on the dash.. on the hubs it says lock or auto. Now the question is, since the 4x4 switch is electronic, shouldn't the 4x4 automatically engage? I tried it out to see, and it will not. I haven't tried it in lock yet. I just thought since its an electronic switch, it should automatically engage or no?

There is a motor on the transfer case that deals with that and the hubs get a vacuum signal pulsed to them to engage the hublocks. If hubs are in auto and everything is working properly all you should need to do is switch to 4hi on the fly and it should engage the hubs and tcase. If you put the hubs in manual and it works then you have a vacuum system problem. If it still does not work them the t-case motor could be at fault. You should hear the transfer case click or clunk when you change the switch position.
