My trans has been having some Intermittent issues that are beyond frustrating me. Yesterday I did some testing with it by loading acouple different tunes, back to stock etc. On one run it would blow the tires down from a roll and wind out no problem to 100+ mph. You could then stop and go to Reverse and the truck would simply lock-up...wtf So I shut the truck off and fire back up, great now has soft and mushy shifts and no overdrive...throws solenoid B code along with another OD code untill you clear them then back to normal...ish

So I decide to limp the truck the 6 miles home as it was nice weather and the truck had been filthy from storing it all winter with intentions of cleaning it. No sooner do I make it into my driveway I loose all gears. I find two puddles under the truck from each side of the Trans pan along with a nice trail following me in from the road. GREAT.

So what internaly can literally force all of the fluid out of the trans like this?

Trans has all new clutches, pistons, pump, harness, solenoids etc...only thing still original is the valve body itself.

Where do I go from here?

I have a what's belived to be "good" valve body out of a 06' 5r sitting here, do I swap it in with my new solenoids along with another new harness and hope for the best?

TCM part of my problem?? although same results in Gearhead or Innovative tunes.

Sorry for the winded response but I'm running out of ideas fellas.

Other than regular leaks. Heat from slipping clutches is prolly boiling the fluid and its comming out of the vent at the top of the case, and its leaking down over bolth sides of the case.

I am dealing with a similar issue you can swap the whole valve body or just the malfunctioning solenoids.

Is the fluid coming out of the breather on top?

I have two puddles but only one stream, apears the stream is from the dipstick fill at the joint on the trans. I've overfilled the trans before and had some come out the breather but that wasnt a tenth of the fluid loss I have here. If it was a over full situation I cant see it emptying the trans. What little fluid that shows on the dipstick is clean and doesnt smell burnt - clutches have maybe 25 miles on them at this point.

Damn that sucks to hear josh...

At this point if you know the builder of the trans is good and things still have issues you need to be looking into cracked valve body or case

I know its been stated but can you give us the back history on the trans like why it was torn down to begin with ect?

Last spring it was gone through due to smoked directs and failed stock converter.

Lasted around 3k miles untill the pump failed which smoked the DPC converter. Clutch packs looked good besides the od pack. Trans goes back together with fresh converter, low mileage pump, new internal harness and new od clutches - this would be September 2012

Trans feels strong, lockup is good. BUT....od doesnt always work randomly. It also was throwing the coast clutch code so the solenoid was replaced.

at this point I drive the truck to an event down at Beans diesel, coming into Nashville the truck is slipping untill it hits Lockup.I park it at a hotel and continue the weekend riding with friends. Trailer the truck home to find a smoked pump and now the forward clutches.

Tadd sent me his updated forward pack and I opted to replace the rest of the clutch packs this go around aswell - also decided to replace all the solenoids and found a nick in the coast clutch apply psiton so it was replaced. NEW pump and new filter etcc.

Truck goes back together and here I am.

I;m also thinking cracked valvebody - I know they warp.

What do you mean by this? Would it not move and not rev up when you had it in reverse?

Truck will go into reverse but only go back like a foot and then it locks up - this feels like a mechanical issue unless some wrong solenoid is stay on?

So is the transmission currently low on oil?

yeah I put a few quarts in it and fired it up a few minutes ago, I was able to move it over out of the way but reverse is still locking up. I dont want to drive it and hurt the new pump/clutches if it's a valve body issue.

gonna tow it back to the shop but just trying to get a game plan..

May seem like a silly questions but why did you replace the solenoids? I thought you usually saw less problems when keeping the stock solenoids in place.

Not silly at all - I replaced them per what codes were being thrown, when I trashed my stock trans I was fearful that the dirty fluid could of been an issue; even with asmuch cleaning as we did..

I can get a new valvebody/solenoid pack that is tested to me this evening, prolly gonna drop the pan and swap it out - If it works then great and if not the trans will come back out and will be sent somewhere to get everything double checked.

Makes sense. I am not going to change out the solenoids if I dont have to with my build. Just read too many issues when you go with new ones instead of sticking with the ones that are used to the added line pressure and that in the tuning.

Anyone put a real scanner on it and watch temps and solenoids work while driving. I'm in coos bay right now and have mine with me if ya need and are close.

Got the one I was working on back out and replaced all the clutches and steels again but with Ford factory stuff. Put it all back together and torqued it all to the book specs she party's now.
