I have a question and would appreciate people who have actually used Amsoil and maybe have done some UAO's. Guys who live in Canada like myself and the colder Northern Part of USA who use Amsoil in their 6.0L which one do you use 15W40 or 5W40? Do you tow much in the summer?

I have used Amsoil since the first oil change in my truck and I have had my truck since it was new with only 4 miles on it. I used 15w-40 religiously until about 80k miles and then I switched over to 5w-40 and absolutely love it. I run 5w-40 in every climate from below 0 to 100+F temps. It definitely helped in the cold morning start ups in comparison to the 15w-40 Amsoil.

On the website it says not to use 5W40 with temps over -1C(31F) just wondering if anyone has been. I always run 5W40 synthetic and just wondering why Amsoil is different. If 15W40 Amsoil has really good reviews by others in colder climates I might give it a try.

Thanks for your reply do you tow often in the heat with the 5W40 and notice any difference?

i live in Western NY where temps can get pretty cold in the winter and pretty darn hot in the summer. I've always used amsoil 5w-40. However last couple oil changes i actually switched over to the amsoil series 3000 5w-30 http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produ...00-sae-5w-30-synthetic-heavy-duty-diesel-oil/. Never had any oil analysis' done, but from what i've heard from others who have...is that after about 1000 miles or so with a 5w-40, the oil will sheer down to a 30 weight. So some have tested a 5w-30 and after a 1000 miles with it...it's still a 30 weight.

Well thanks for the input guys, I have never ran a 30 weight oil in a diesel before but I'm assuming you guys arent the only ones running it in their 6.0L. Anybody else that runs the 5W30 Amsoil in your 6.0L your input is appreciated too

I know amsoil did some extensive testing before they released it and recommended it for the diesels. I can try and find the study if you need it.

I wouldn't use 15w40 in a 6L. I run esso xd-3 0w40, which is a PAO group IV synthetic, in winter. And a 5w-40 synth in summer. But I might try a 5w-30 this spring oil change. I live and work in the ****ty winter portion of Alberta.

I checked into 5W30 and on the Amsoil website it says not recommended for use in temperatures above -1C. Why do they say that are these thinner oils not lubricate as well in warmer temperatures, because I have always used a 5W40 synthetic.

I know the weather down there all to well I work down there most of the time. Have you ever had an UOA with that oil yet and how many km do you run between oil changes?
