6.0 with a Powerglide?

So now that the donor truck is here for the Fordota, I'm trying to get my ducks more in a row. I was initially going to run a 4R behind the 6.0 but the more I think about it the more I wonder if I can put a Powerglide back there instead. With the huge tires and 2.91 gears that are in the rear I should have plenty of rpm I would think. Plus the Powerglide would be significantly lighter I imagine. Not to mention parts availability/cost and less shifts to worry about.

So if I were to attempt this, where would I start?

I would go th400 over a glide for the extra gear but I think you will miss lock up a lot. Problem with a non lock up is you have to run a low stall to get the efficiency down the track but it hurts you on the line to spool your chargers. It's a constant battle. If you can get a lock up 400 (im not sure if you can) that would be awesome!

But the advantage to a 4R is it bolts right up and lock up with overdrive.

I think they do make a lock up glide but its pretty pricy. From what I have seen the TH400 is the way to go.

Yeah I checked and Hughes and ATI both carry a lockup Powerglide. The Hughes one didn't list a price but the ATI one with all the bells and whistles was $11k. Gonna check on the TH400s now to see what they have. Thanks for the input.

Several moths ago when I was at suncoast they mentioned doing a th400 and a glide. I tried calling them a few times today to find out some info but had issues with my cell. I will call Blake tomorrow to see how far they are along. A th400 would be great but a glide in something as light as your truck I think would be awesome with lockup. I have been studying this pretty hard for a month or so also.

I run a basic built Powerglide behind the 7.3 in my Altered, the set-up works fine. We built the adapter ourselves and I had a custom torque converter built for it.
The only benefit I can see running a turbo 400 would be an extra gear to get a heavier vehicle moving. Both 1:1 in high.

Glides are super simple to work on and rebuild if needed.

As you well know how it goes....We started it over 9 years ago. The family grew, then the business grew, and it got pushed into the corner of the shop. I started working on it again in March and just hit the track finally 2 weekends ago. Still working the bugs out and fixing this and that.
Best ET so far was 10.40 last night with crappy launch and computer/tuning issues.
Every run we learn something new, lots left in it for sure.

The car weighs 2550# with me in it (I know, crazy heavy for an Altered, but it was scratch built around a 7.3 block to handle the huge slug.) Any idea what the Fordota will weigh in at?

Sorry, there are no pics online yet, just haven't had time.
