My truck went in last night for an oil leak. It was diagnosed as a leaking front cover and my power steering pump is leaking all of which is covered under warranty. My question is my service writer is trying to sell my a 200 dollar injection service. My truck has 65k on it and im not sure if its necessary or not. What do you guys think?

Thats what im unsure of all the service writer said was ford recommends that every 45k you do this injection service. From what i gathered its suppose to clean the egr valve intake and injectors.

Apparently they tap somewhere into the fuel line and run a bg product and do an injector service.

If you actually drive the truck more than for just a grocery getter as in towing things and use the turbo's then I would pass. BG has a good product for gas engines for the injectors and such, never used the diesel. But then again if the car is used and not just a grocery getter then I have never seen an improvement. Tried it on my car and it did nothing besides give a warm and fuzzy feeling.

NO.

If it was a FORD recommended service they wouldn't likely be using BG products.

Tell him to do the warranty stuff and shove the injection service up his ass.

The truck doesnt move unless its got a trailer behind it usually. Thats kinda what im thinking its just a service writter trying to make his quota.

In all reality, it is not something that would hurt anything if you had it done. The fact is, it is call preventative maintenance for a reason, as it is meant to be done before a problem arises. It is all in the presentation of the service writer on how well they explains that. Necessary? No. A bad idea? No. Are you going to have problems down the road that could be prevented with this? Maybe

If the service also helps to clean EGR, intake, ect... It would for sure be a good idea as most know how gunked up the system can get.

Just an opinion on the outside looking in.
