Since the 6.4L is getting up there in age and Mileage we are starting to see common failures of these types of problems minor stuff like glow plugs burning out. Since the new diesels have the capability to pinpoint the one failing it makes it easy to pinpoint the problem. In this video I show how to change glow plugs on a 6.4l and how to do a basic test. I hope this helps.

I find the 6.4 starts really good in the cold. I hate to admit it and I hate that I do it but I've started the old girl on -30 celsius with out waiting for glow plugs at all. That's sitting over night not plugged in. She rattles and clanks and bangs and blows smoke but shortly clears up.

Yes the 6.4l start awesome in the cold compared to the 6.0l

My reg cab needs #4. Wish I could just turn off the DTC. Glow plugs are unnecessary where I live

#4 is nice and easy just like #8 and on the 6.4l the glow plug harness doesn't fall apart in your hands either like the dreaded 6.0l
