6.7 Rod choices

I'm in the process of building a 6.7 mainly for towing with my F450 but kinda concerned with these stock wimpy looking rods. But I'm also not looking to build a race engine and hoping not to have to fork out $3500 plus for billet rods. Like most guys I am planning on some tuning and a better turbo but one fit for towing. But power is power and we all like power right??? So from what I find some are offering 6.0 rods that have been modified to run in the 6.7. Has anyone gone this route??? Also looking at the specs it's kinda confusing to see how they are going about this. I've read where part of it is they have to offset grind the crankshaft, so with that I would have thought the 6.0 rod had a bit smaller rod journal but that's not the case. As a matter of fact the 6.0 rod journal appears to be a bit larger than that of the 6.7. So with these fractured cap PM rods that rules out re-sizing the big end of the 6.0 rods bringing down to fit the 6.7 rod journal. So with that being said I'm concerned they are using some special rod bearings to make up the difference. And if that's the case then why the need to re-size the rod journals on the crankshaft??? Unless the information I found on these internal engine details I have to say I am a bit confused. Anyone cares to share their thoughts???

why not just hit up Morgan @ Midwest Diesel and get some of his billet rods that he engineered...

On second thought-why not just do a streetmax turbo and some good tuning and call it good! you shouldn't need rods...

Well, I feel like if I don't do something to address the rods while I have the motor apart I may regret it latter on. I may not be looking to make 650hp but I'd like a **** load of torque and some hp will will come along with that. It's the load that bends/breaks these rods. Again not really looking to go billet. If I have to I will purchase at least one new 6.0 rod from Ford and then from there I will look closely at what it takes to make these work. If it can be done I will figure it out. It won't be the first time....

Who these guys??? http://www.midwestdiesel.com/

Just to let you guys know, I had a member here who was kind enough to pass along a lead to a company in California that does custom rods for under $2000. So that's a nice option to have. The only issue is there is a 12 week lead time as they feel behind due to one of their suppliers. I still may go this route as it may just be worth the wait. But I'm still going to look at other options.....

Thanks for the replies.... It would be nice to find a nice set of rods that will work for the middle of the road needs, so to speak.....

Gotcha, I was like thats not going to drop right in.

Yes, that's it. I called and tried to get some details about that setup but haven't heard back from them. I spoke to the guy's wife and she was suppose to have him call me but never heard from them. There's also another company that offers a similar kit but that guy had had a piss poor attitude when asking about certain details, so to hell with them....

Well that's understandable for sure. All she had to do was mention that and I would certainly understand. I'm just trying to find out the best route to go. Like I said, I'm not looking to build an all out race motor and probably would be ok with the stock rods, but how often do we ever dial our engines back?? The quest for a few extra pounds of boost seems to be always a want....So while I'm building this sucka I have to weight all my options. Like I stated earlier I was directed to a company that offers some very nice rods for under $2k and that's kinda looking like that may be the way to go, they are just 12 weeks out right now..... Decisions, decisions!!!

I could be wrong but I thought I read something a long time ago that river city diesel was going to have some cheaper options.
