ok i had someone call the other day telling me they were haven a prob with there late 99 7.3 6 speed. it started several months ago as he was looseing mpgs and power and then one day on his way home it acted up so bad he didnt think he was gona make it home now its parked and for the most part wont start. when it sits for several hours it might start and idle ok but if you give it throttle it feels very laggy and surges a little. i went to look at it and heres what i found i beleive either ipr or hpop but not sure as it was after work and getting dark im goin back for more searching. icp was dry and not corroded or loose. uvch connectors on outside of valve covers were the same. new fuel filter although bowl wont drain, getting fuel at bowl, tested when it ran with cts and icp at idle was 4 to 500 and when nailed went up to 2900. ipr duty cycle was 17% at idle. no fuel or oil leaks anywere, it fired right up when i first got there and we were gona go on test drive de turned it off to get something then wouldnt start. after i left it started. any ideas? what is good way to test ipr on truck if possible? threw codes for icp, ebps, and ipr.

great link didint know that one as iv never had a prob with itand never changed one out at the dealership. so you have to buy one to see if its bad? that doesnt sound like the prob cause it idles fine but may try that after ipr.

Im going to say its a IPR sticking.. change it out(hopefully from a friends truck you can borrow one before having to buy a new one) and see what happens.

New o-rings are a good idea when swapping an IPR around, but it's been done before without them.

The socket depends. Some fit, others don't. NAPA sells a deep socket that works just fine. I've seen several other threads about other brands that work fine too.
