Ok so the back story to it is about a month ago the fan and clutch assembely came off and blew through the radiator. I didn't find that out till I got to work and was pissing fluid, and engine temp light came on. Got it home, new radiator and electric fan went in. Truck actually runs cooler with e-fan. Well I have ha a little leakin since then and at first thought it was fluid just left over from the swap. Not the case since not I am leaving antifreeze fluid everywhere I go.

Well now I have narrowed it down to the water pump area. So now is where I need the input. Should I replace the gasket to see it that will fix it ( $10 tops and a few hours) or replace the whole pump. I will also be replacing the tstat.

Neither. Get under there and see if the weephole in the pump.is.leaking. It could be a.hose or somethings loose. If the weephole has stains emanating from it then the bearing, bearing.seal, and pump.are shot.

The weephole is sealed when the seal gives it allows coolant to leak past the seal to leak in an attempt to tell the driver the whole things about to go.
Get a pump from napa, stay away from autozone. Very easy to fix about an hour also get some diesel addative from your local ford dealer. It will help your pump last the long haul

so if the pumps not leaking, replace it anyway? If the seal that keeps coolant in the pump and out of the bearing is goin it will weep, hence the term weephole. That's the precursor to.complete pump failure.

If his heater hose is leaking, he needeth not a new water pump.

All I was saying.

And I think you meant coolant additive.

I agree all I was trying to imply was that the heater hose is the most likely not to fail because the 7.3 IDI or DI do not get hot enough to cause real :gas standard: heat and thus the weephole is the most likely place. If you are really worried about the conditions of your hoses you can replace the entire system for around 40$ And even with a hot chip the 7.3 cooling system is suffiecient for at least a stage2.

The heater hose was JUST an example. You're exactly right, hoses are fairly inexpensive, precisely why I would check them before throwing a new water pump on. When one decides toss parts at a problem versus pinpointing it and then replacing the faulty component it's best to start at the cheapest part and move up in cost.

I just did my water pump a month ago and I changed everything. It's worth a few extra bucks for the comfort and peace of mind. :D Hell, I was going to change the radiator too.

Well crawled under the truck today and it is deffenitely leaking from the water pump from the under side right behind the pulley. So it looks like I will be swapping pumps out. Add that to the list of crap I have to do.

1) put in intercooler
2) swap gear boxes
3) swap water pumps
4) finish parts list for e-fuel
5) work to make more money to buy "stuff" for the truck.
