A/C problem

so it works for about 5 min when the truck as been sitting for a few hrs but after that it comes out hot

is it low on refrigerant???

the compressor dosnt even come on after the 5 min

I agree with sticking a gauge on and seeing what happens. then if need be, buy some synthetic Arctic Cool refrigerant from advanced auto and keep adding until the gauge falls into the correct zone.

Put an actual manifold gauge on it and see what is going on. If there isn't enough coolant the low pressure switch will cut out the compressor and if the pressure is to great as in the orifice tube is blocked the high pressure switch will cut out the compressor. You will need R-134A refrigerant. Not to be a wise guy but if you didn't know what refrigerant you needed for your truck you would likely be best off taking the truck somewhere that does a/c work and asking to watch what they do in order to learn what to do.

^Agreed, but its SUPER easy to refill these trucks on your own. Just gotta buy the right stuff, a gauge, and understand how the gauge works and what its doing.
