Advice Needed

New to the site and in need of some advice. Traded the motor in my OBS and some work to a wrecker buddy of mine for a 03 totaled SD with 32,000 miles. Truck has been sitting in his lot since 07. Wrecked truck is complete and already in my possession.

I will be replacing the motor in his 300,000 mile 96 550 wrecker with my current OBS motor. Question is can i pull the Rods out of the 03 motor and replace them with the rods from the 96 core motor?

Wouldn't be wise running my 238/100s and current mods in the SD motor with pmrs.

Would this be possible or do i need to run new oe rods or aftermarkets?

Have them checked out at a machine shop for twist and bend, and you should be fine. I'm assuming you are just doing this because they are forged?

If it were me, I would freshen up either one of those motors with new stuff. Those rods have 300000 miles of hard work as a wrecker motor. I'm sure it will be fine if they were checked out and given a thumbs up by a machine shop. A complete rebuild kit is a little more than a grand and that's with new pistons as well. That way you have peace of mind knowing that everything good to go. But to answer your question, it will be fine as long as they were inspected by a machine shop as stated above.

It's just my opinion but I would. It gonna be disassembled anyways and has been sitting since 07. Water from condensation could have formed corrosion inside, cracked o-rings, numerous other issues that you won't see unless taken apart and since it will be tore down, might as well. To keep cost down reuse what you can like pistons. Just my opinion!

Thanks for the help guys. I will be going this route. Was already replacing most of the wearable items when installing my hybrids and supporting mods.
