alternator isn't charging

Driving the other day and blew my ic boot and pipe ended up grounding out the alt. Last night on my way home from work it quit charging, lights went dim, all the usual things. I figured I ruined the alt, so today I brought it up to oriellys and got it warrantied out. Put the new one on and the truck still won't charge. I don't know if I have that bad of luck that I got one that was dead on arrival or what else could be messed up, any help is appreciated.

Have you checked battery voltage without the truck running and with it running? If so, what did you get?

probably hosed the fuse link to it (by the right side battery)
