I got a good deal on some new amp steps, but they are for the 02-03 and 08+ ford f250/350 etc. I have a late 99 so it will take some modification of the harness and or control box. I was wondering if anyone has done this? I called amp and said would be easier to purchase the new harness and control box, but they cost around $230 for the package and isn't worth it if I can modify them for cheaper.

Steps are still on the way and haven't had a chance to look over the wiring etc yet. If anyone has some information on how to make them work or a thread that someone else has done this it would help out greatly.

Thanks,

John

My friend bought the same set that was for an 08. He didn't know it because the seller advertised it incorrectly.

He bought the new wire harness and also ended up buying a new motor as well. Still was cheaper than a brand new kit, but still a pain.

I would probably just spend the money on the wire harness or sell the kit to someone with an 08+. Then get yourself another one.

Are these more complex then I think?

Would you not just need a trigger wire for the door open switch?

I am sure you could probably figure something out. But my buddy is an electrical guy and messed with it and couldn't get it to work properly. He also mentioned that the newer one didn't have enough diodes. To me that means that the newer trucks are wired different. I think when I did mine it was a ground that completed the circuit and I don't think it was the case with the one my friend had....

I think that price also include the main brain/control box as well.

Well I think I am just going to sell this kit and hunt another one down. I Would like $875 shipped if anyone is interested. I would have to purchase controller $98 and the wiring kit is $120ish. Amp said they would send me the correct diodes with that for free. They do have a very helpful customer service. Since my truck is 1999.5 with out factory key less entry it takes custom diodes. You also have to do some extra things than regular kits, but over it doesn't sound too hard of a kit to install with the right control box and wiring harness.
