Hi everyone. My e99 trans is going to go anyday. Soft shifts 1-2 2-3 bangs hard. I had a new oem converter installed when I bought truck 2 yrs ago and 23k miles ago. Snice then I put a php hydra and full force stage 1.5 injectors 180/30 i believe. An adrealine hpop and a irate t4 s366 kit. Other small mods as well like riff raff frx.

Anyhow back on topic. I have been looking into transmission john woods is around 5k for tran s these days and I have a hard time dishing that out on my measly enlisted military pay. Live check to check. I tow a 26ft boat and 30 ft 5er. Ex dodge level 4 trans technician. I can build it but concerned about longivity. Read a lot of posts about rebuilds not lasting long.

So Im looking for inputs on dieselsite legendary 4r100. Bob says his trans will hold up to my set up no ptoblem. I know he builds good stuff. Just not much feedback/reviews. Don't mention bts not waiting months or wanna deal with warranty waits.

Any good kits out there that will hold up to home builds.

Thanks in advance. It's 334 am my post probably rambles as I'm tired so excuse me if anyone is offended.

I've never had any doings with bobs 4r, but I've never known bob to produce anything but good quality stuff. If I may I would say diesel site, John wood, and twisted would all be good choices depending on your location and time frame.

if you can do the work yourself, then buy a rebuild kit. i would get a converter and valve body kit from bts, john wood, or even see if bob riley will sell you a combo too..

I have had their 4R100 in my 4-450 dumptruck for a little Over 1K now..
Put in when converting truck to 4x4 , been very pleased with it .

Also added Dieselsite converter and billet input shaft per the recommendations from them .
According to the future mods planned for the truck.

I did add the Dieselsite external filter kit for it just because I was not ready to plumb up the new 31 row cooler I have for it .

Core was lost in transit , last I spoke with them they had not received it .
Had no effect on my order , they were helpful and a pleasure to deal with as usual.

I do still have Dynoproven tunes on it so like mentioned in their add shifts are a little harsh , no more than my sons BTS though.

Tuning will be addressed when injector install happens.

Send them an email with some questions and or concerns, they are happy to answer .

Hope this helps a little .

Its not any cheaper by the time you add in all the durability parts.

I got a quote three months ago. No matter who you go to the price will be about the same. Except bts. From the few carnage threads people were finding the shafts to be cryoed stock pieces.

Hell, Id try it if the numbers work out for you.

Thanks for all the replies. I have talked to Bob said he would put hi sx trans up against anyones. Not sure what total build cos t would be for me to do it. Sun c oast said 1500 for parts alone not including torque convertor. John woods told me he uses 4k in new parts in the towmaster. Those are cryod shafts as well he uses a billet forward drum only according to his website list.

I'm on the west coast. Cant just drive into Johns shop either do to beING in a different stste. What did some of you pay to build your own or from builders if u don't mind me asking. My love al shops want 4-6 k and I don't trust them.

Local guy does not pull or install the trans. But I believe I was right around 2000 for a dual Disc tc, new solenoid pack, and transgo tugger. Much cheaper than a normal shop because he's got no overhead. Might have been less than that. But I know I couldn't find a better deal anywhere.

If Bob sells it, you can depend on it. He puts his products through the wringer trying to break them before releasing them for public consumption.

I'm in Washington state. If that's what you mean where at. I'm in oak harbor. I'm just trying to get as much positive feedback as I can. I considered calling racer x for a rebuild kit. I've built many 545rfe dodge auto trans and even there other trans when I worked for dodge from 2007-2008. Auto trans are not rocket science. I went to universal technical institute and graduated. I can do the work. Just would be my 1st ford build. I learned from a great teacher when I first started at dodge. So I know what to look for. I also never soaked my clutches people would prob say that's a no no. But that's how I was taught by the old timer. In school they had us soak them. I built at least 100 or so trans in my 1 yr there and never had a come back. I would give them a really good road test etc. **** I even built my personal 545rfe in my 2003 ram 1500 in my garage when it started to slip.

I just can't really find a complet kit anywhere. That includes everything to add the extra clutches In all the pack etc. Dose anyone know who even gives a good discount to military members. John woods is 200 off his transmission. Wonder what he sells just overhaul kits.

Appreciate all the responses.

The reason why John replaces significant amounts of hard parts is this, most E4OD/4R100 transmissions have well over 250k on the cores themselves rendering alot of hard parts in the worn stages.. The input drum, overdrive planetary, foward drum wear, center support warpage, ect... I'm in the process of building a J.W competiton trans myself buying every part so far from John himself.. Let me tell ya, it ain't no BTS is all I can say...

I wouldn't say BTS is better or worse but he has been known to say he puts billet parts in his trans and come to find out he doesn't. Brian's customer service sucks, I'll just put that out there. I paid him cash up front 100% and he put me off 10 months before I got my trans. After that I'll do whatever I can to get people to go elsewhere. I know this isn't a bashing thread but I know several people who has been through this. And after talking to elrod^^, john wood seems to deliever what he says with good service.

Another option is dyno proven. I was at Jonathan's shop the other day and he is now building 4rs, allisons, etc, full comp billet with a no bs lifetime warranty with his tuning. Just another thought for you guys.

Riverboy, from one trans tech to another I'll say that the principals behind trans building are the same from one trans to another. Don't be shy to build your Ford trans. I'm a Ford trans guy, I've built some fwd dodge stuff too, all for stock applications. Don't need to have much for special tools when building 4r100. You can buy a complete seal kit from Ford, probably an overhaul kit available too. Bts apparently uses Ford clutches so they are obviously good quality. Maybe try a price through sunrise Ford on here. Can buy a valve body from one of the vendors here or just buy the transgo tugger kit (that's what I have). Get a good quality converter, upgrade the rest of the internals for the power you have or future goals. Get yourself an assembly manual and have at it.

You will not be dissapointed with a John Woods trans. I have 120k on my towmaster with gh tunes and it still performs great. When I drive the other truck with a stock 4R100 its just disappointing.

Ok here is some history on John Wood, guy is actually pretty easy to get a hold of, be polite, and the receptionist is really nice too on the phone.. He was part of the R.D team for Transgo when Transgo got started.. He has been tearing down E4ODs since they were new in 89 doing warranty work, when Brian was having comebacks with the Precision converters and you can CALL HIM about this John cut a few apart and took the time to help Precision figure what WAS wrong instead of using the same flawed parts over and over again. He does $30k a month with TCS alone, which if you guys know by now they are the MAIN billet parts supplier for E4OD transmissions.. He uses Suncoast converters because they are not a TH400 blank like some use... The things he does comes from years of building performance transmissions before a lot of guys ever were.. There is another trans builder in Grand Rapids Mi called overtime racing, Keith taught me alot about transmissions years back, he was Dennis Anderson (grave digger) trans builder for a while as well as Steve Morris' s trans builder and was a Suncoast beta tester much like John... And here is whats sad, John is talking about hanging it up in about 2-3 years... Personally why I'm trying my hardest to learn his Voodoo trans magic... Talent is such a hard thing to find and when its gone... its gone...
