Are 6.4s normally stinky?

My 6.4 stinks. When I bought it my buddy who has one said they smell. Is it because of the DPF? I will be deleting that within the next few months.

Yes. Our 08 6.4 F-450 was horrible. You could not let it run inside the shop without having a door open, the smell would make ya sick. Was never around our friends 6.4 before it was deleted/tuned, but his truck smells normal now.

Is it like a pure sulfur or rotten egg smell?

kind of but not quite. Almost smells a bit like coolant too.

I had one in front of me going through regen and people were passing him and flipping him off. Stunk real bad but its the norm.

I always thought it was somewhat of a hot sulfury/burnt propane smell.

burnt propane for sure.....My dmax trucks.smell like that too minus the rotten smell

Yes I had an LBZ as a work truck and it smelled the same.
