I just bought a 2000 7.3, it has an auxillary idle control module with charge protect and a PTO button. I purchased theough a dealer on ebay, so was not able to get any info as to why/what it was used for from previous owner.
1. For what reason would someone install this?
2. The rpm's on dash does not work its read from the module only, is this normal?
New to site, thanks

Should still work on the dash.
It's useless. Just package it and mail it my way, I'll dispose of it. 😉 lol
Could've had it for a pto.

Thanks for replys. Do not think it had pto on it before. But im guessing the rpm gauge stopped working for whatever reason and he installed this instead.
Thanks for the directions I do already have them. I cant figure out why it is ramping up to 1000rpm at idle anytime. I do like it for warm up, but it always bothers me when a running engine idles high, any engine. I have a high idle mode for my chip, i cant seem to find a way to change the idle control through the auxillary one or just stop it all together. On start up it runs at about 680rom for 2-4 minutes then ramps up to 1008rpm and stays there. The directions dont explain everything that good and i cant find a setting or anything for 1008rpm. All the 4 saved idle modes are different then 1008rpm. Any ideas..??

The engine will idle up automatically depending on the temperature. It is to help the truck warm up. Once the truck is up to operating temp, the idle will usually taper back off to normal levels. Pressing the brake will make the high idle return to normal.

The auto high idle is controlled by the PCM. Perhaps a custom "tune" from a tuner could disable it, but I don't know why you would want to. Its not good for a diesel engine to sit at its normal idle speed for lengthened amounts of time. That's why people usually idle their trucks up. Plus it helps warm the cab up or cool it down faster.
