Avoiding blown boots

Anyone have any tips for keeping the hot side boots on? I'm running a 366 and the 45* boot loves to blow off at around 35 psi.

Ccv is routed to the atmosphere...boots are clean & oil free...as well as the piping.

I've tried the hair spray to no avail.

I'm still running the stock hot side piping until I spring for no limits hot & cold side.

Clamps are as tight as can be.

Any tips are appreciated :D

I had this same issue with mine. What I did was weld a bead around the very edge of both ends. I've never blown one since.

I thought of running a kinda high bead around the hot side tube. The charger already has a little lip on it ya know.

Did you mig or tig a bead?

I tig welded it, I think mig would be to big

I was thinking the same. I think no limits piping has a bead rolled already.

I don't have a tig'r nor the knowledge how to. I'd love to but I won't buy a cheap welder but don't need a 5k dollar one.

What machine do you use?

I have the same issue. Got 3 nice dents in the hood from it. I though about building a bracket off the alternator mounting bolts to keep the pipe held down.

I thought this very thing just in case/when they blow off.

I've TIG welded a bead and I've used these. They work REALLY well.
http://www.dieselsite.com/dieselsiteturbohoseretainingring-3idboosthose.aspx

They slip right down into the grooves. On my pipes I just tac welded them into place. No more boot slip offs. Hold 45 psi all day. This link is for the 3in ring but they also sell the 2.5in ring. I've got them on both my hot and cold side pipes.

Gonna order those tmrw, i wasnt aware they made them for the 2.5''. Thanks!!

Miller econotig, it's nothing special but it does the job well

Looks like a solid welder.

I've honestly wondered how some of the 3-500$ tig machines on eBay would work. Especially since I'd use it maybe 10 times a year

They might not have all the fancy bells and whistles, but I bet they will do the job just fine. Especially for the enthusiast DIYer. Now if you're going after stylish beads and doing welding for finished products, you're gonna want something a little more refined. I had no problem laying quality beads on either aluminum, steel, or stainless steel with my cheesy Eastwood TIG 200. Worked just fine. Was a little weak on the thick 1/4in aluminum stuff. LOL

Glad I'm not the only one with dents in my hood from this! Lol

Haha ya I would be pretty mad about the dents but the previous owner smashed the very front of the hood and covered it with a bug guard, so it's not to big of a deal to me.

Oddly enough... I wrecked my truck a little bit ago and had to get a new hood... about 45 mins after picking it up I blew a boot & dented the hood...but it never chipped the paint on the underside...the body shop that fixed the truck went back & got it out for me no charge
