Battery dummy light

My girlfriend has a 99 7.3. When you are in park the battery light is but flickers. When you are driving it goes away and flickers on and off. Could it be bad cables or the alternator ?

Could be either one. Look at the single wire attached to the back of the alternator. The connector has been known to break, leaving the insulation intact. It will give an intermittent connection.

However, with the symptoms you give, it sounds more like a weak alternator.
