Belt tensioner

Is my belt tensioner going bad ? I keep chewing up belts..

Found some piece of metal hanging off the bottom . It does have some side to side play . Trying to upload video not working

Well it did have side to side play with belt on . When I removed belt no play on tensioner. I did notice that there is play in the power steering pulley. I can slide the pulley in and out at least 1/8 ". Is that normal??

If I'm not mistaken that metal tab is to lock the Tensioner. I forget in what position though. Not sure on your pulley play.

Easy to replace. That's what mine did. Rubber melted all around the pulleys.

Tab is there to lock the tensioner in a fully released position. PS shaft will always have some "in and out" movement and is totally normal.

Tensioner pulley is most likely the culprit. Does it look inline with the other pulleys with the belt installed? Hows the belt tracking on the tensioner pulley? How is the belt getting chewed up?

The inside of the belt was getting chewed up. The tensioner with the belt on I could wiggle the tensioner. I just replaced it so I'll see if that was the problem.
