Ok guys I've been lurking here and maybe I missed it. But its time I start working on my 08, I'm wanting to get a programmer first then do the deletes in a few weeks when I have the money. What would be the best programmer to get? I see a lot of good about Spartan and H&S. Is one better than the other, is there one I'm missing that would be better? I'm new to most of this stuff and really dont know many people around that are into it. So any help would be awesome.

Its not you. Some guys get really worked up over tuners.

LOL aint that the truth.

One positive thing about H&S is that it appears you have the options of using the H&S canned tunes or customized IDP, GH and KEM tunes IIRC.

Call a few vendors as platforms are expanding it appears.

Depends on what you are looking for. There are a lot more tuning options from different tuners through H&S and SCT. Spartan has good tuning and you can't beat the monitoring system. I will be going with spartan tuner for tuning on my "new to me" rig.

If I were you, I'd get all your deletes and tuning squared away and make a day of it.

I was really liking the Spartan because it looked like you could hook most gauges up to it, and the monitor looked a lot better. A friend of a friend has H&S and likes it, and a guy at work has a SCT I think it was.

Looking at upgrading the exhaust to a 4 or 5 inch, and the intake, and egr delete sooner or later. Starting slow and once all the "cheap" stuff is done I'll see where that puts me.

So IDP can tune on an h&s ?

Direct from Eric himself:
Yes, I can tune on the H&S with custom tunes now.

Drewtech will license us to use the monitor also. There are a lot of companies that use it for tuning. Livernois uses it for the gas vehicles. It's just so expensive to use, it's really not worth it. It's a good option for tuning vehicles that no one else will support.

Unless I could get an H&S super cheap it wouldn't be worth it for me as I have the LW for tuning and I use the CTS for monitoring. It appears the H&S won't monitor much more than the CTS so I'd be a wash for my situation IMHO. I would gain monitoring improvements w/ the DD but if I went that route I'd want it to support my IDP tunes.

I have the H&S, and plan to buy the Spartan from Holder Down so I can monitor with the Spartan and tune with the H&S. The Spartan is 529.99 from Holder Down but all you can do is data log and monitor gauges. NO tuning.

Slight derail, Jeff have you ever heard of anyone running a OBD2 port spliter so they can run the Spartan and the H&S at the same time? Im not trying to stack tunes or anything, I just want the shift on the fly ability, and still be able to monitor running the H&S and the Spartan. Shoot me a pm if ya have any info. I posted on here but didnt get an answer.

Just to clarify, what you're buying from Holderdown is not a Spartan. It's a regular DashDAQ by Drew Technologies.

I'm sure it's possible to run a tuner and a monitor with an OBDII splitter. I've never looked into them though.

Ahh thanks for the correction! Well the splinter is cheap so if it doesn't work I won't be to worried about it. Thanks for the help Jeff.

That would be interesting to see what happens.
I'd give you the chance to data log and switch the tunes and keep data logging.

In theory it should work, the H&S is sending the programing parameters to the vehicle and the DD is receiving the subsequent data as the OBDII transmits info both ways.

I've been thinking about doing the splitter for a different reason. The one from H&S sticks out farther than my old SCT connector (because the power source cord is also connected to the adapter) did so and with boots on, I keep quicking the damn thing when I go to shift gears. If anyone tries the splitter, please post the results.
