Picked up the 5100s for stock height from eshocks for $326 shipped, and an afe Stage 2 dry intake from a local guy for $360 shipped...everything arrived late last week, so I planned a Saturday of installation around kid's naps and wife being around in case I needed a car to buy a tool/part I needed.
afe went on fairly easily, but the airbox replacement was somewhat out of spec and required some contortion to get in and line up with the bolt holes. It ended up snapping the plastic (!) bolt hole near the battery. Also, the tube doesn't allow the coolant line coming across the intake to sit flush in the channel, but it's close enough. I was very surprised at the low growl that comes out of this thing. I should also add that on initial startup, it showed the wrench icon, but hooking it up to my torque app and bluetooth obdII adapter, there were no stored codes. Went in, seated the maf connector again, and the light has been gone since. I didn't expect a lot from it in terms of noticeable power, but it sounds great when you're on the throttle and pulls very hard. (I love this truck).
The shock install was also straight-forward, and I was pretty surprised at how bad the stock FX4 shocks were. The fronts, when compressed, would not rebound at all. I mean, I knew they were crap, but these were beyond shot. The fact that the boots on the front are open at the bottom, it wasn't a big jump to understand why they were so far gone. I installed them with the wheels on, so it took me longer....but I'd call it a 3 beer job overall.
Truck handles SO MUCH better now. In fact, even though it may be overkill, I'm considering installing a steering stabilizer with 5100 shocks.
Anyhow, just wanted to share my small noob 6.7 victory and try to be a little more social Next up are some amp steps around October, I can't stand the factory steps.
