since my truck has one on it but cant find where the wires lead can i just cut and splice the block heater wires into a piece of extension cord , then be able to "plug it in" at night , or would doing that damage something? its never been used before , and since its a conversion truck there are still tons of random wires left over from the gas engine , already tried following them but get lost pretty quick so wondered if i could cut and splice them into a new cord?

If it were me, I would disconnect the original cord from the heater element and run a new one. Just to keep it clean. Or really take my time and find the original. Shouldn't be to bad if you start from the element and work your way foward. That's just me though!

Yup...don't be cutting splicing crap. Find the heater plug in the oil cooler housing and trace forward. Or replace with new.

sent while swerving into the wrong lane...

guys...i mean from the block where the wires come out , i know its right above the oil filter , but the wires just go into a big shamble of other wires that are all taped together with electrical tape and darn near impossible to trace , thus wondering if i can just cut and splice a new cord

It actually unplugs out of the element and for $20 you can get a new cord from power-stuck...

BC Canada Eh!
it should be its own harness running atop the framerail to the bumper area
remove the electricians tape and fix the mess

no , this is a conversion truck so where everything usually is on the 94-97 diesels , is not the same on here , which is why i thought of just cutting the wires or getting a new unit ^

If you don't want to mess with what is tapped up just purchase a new cord and be done with it.

Since it is on a transplanted engine all bets are off on where it ends up at. All we know for sure is where it starts at on the block.
