Considering an external oil cooler. I've been leaning towards the bpd cooler, but the cost is holding me back. My new oil cooler has only been in about 3000 miles. the motor was flushed and flushed before all the work was done. the mechanic that did the head studs, gaskets, heads, cooler, and delete for the previous owner told him the cooling system was really dirty and he did the best he could to clean it without disassembling the block etc. (which he wanted to do to clean it). I'm going to be flushing the system with restore + and plan to put on a coolant filter. after that I want to replace the cooler. I plan on driving the truck on a 3000 mile trip in December and don't want to deal with another cooler issue knowing the motor was so dirty. afraid it will just clog the new one the same. now I have recently seen that IPR has an external cooler as well and wanted to hear some opinions and pros/cons of the 2 coolers. thanks for the input.

this one from IPR?

Doesn't seem to be near the upgrade that the BPD offers. I like the remote aspect of the BPD. IPR states that it is not recommended for long tows up steep grades, why the hell would I want this part in my truck then?

Here's some things to consider: a representative from WIX stated that the filter used in the IPR kit can not handle the oil flow requirements of the 6.0. I've also seen some pics from folks who have had to deal with an IPR kit failure and it wasn't pretty (almost all of them ended up buying a kit from Bulletproof Diesel). Lastly, there have been a lot of questions raised about the location of the EOT sensor in the IPR kit, the accuracy of the oil temps (and the favorable impacts to ECT/EOT differences), and how its affected by the bypass at the oil cooler.

Bottom line is that there's some questionable engineering with that kit. I personally have a hard time trusting a company that designed and marketed a high flow oil cooler that fails to meet OEM specs and continues to sell them.

On the other hand, everything in the Bulletproof Diesel kit is top shelf and it works as it should. It's the only way to go.

There is a pretty in depth thread about these two kits on another site... Can't mention site but a google search should pop it up.

With that said, I debated on both kits. After speaking with both manufactures, I felt that BPD had the better of the two. They answered all my questions with with factual data and real world examples. While the cost was higher than IPR, the quality of the BPD kit speaks for itself.
I tow daily with the BPD kit. I got the one with the OEM filter which saved some $'s
I also got the larger cooler for the 550's which BPD let me test out before it was on the market. No issues with heat even towing heavy in 90-100 degrees

Like Snake said, It's the only way to go. It's a hard pill to swallow in the begining, but the peace of mind makes up for it IMO.

If IPR had better data to back up their claims, and I was buying a new kit, I would probably have gotten that. But they dont, and I got a killer deal on a used BPD Oil cooler kit so.....thats what sitting in my living room right now.
