Buying 150k mile 7.3...how to check it

My google-fu is sucking...

I found a 1995 7.3 with 150k on it. Frame is scrap...guy is selling the motor cheap. Assuming I can't get to it and run a compression test before he yanks the motor, how else would I check it? Leakdown test? I wanna clean it up and just drop it in with 250/100 injectors and a 38r.

Just fire it up. Pull the oil cap off, turn it upside down and set it on the oil fill hole. If it blows off, walk away. If it sets there or rattles off, buy the motor.

A 7.3 with 150K miles on it, is barely broken in.
