Found a 10 6.4 single cab long bed 2wd truck with 75k on it. Pretty clean little truck and was actually the Ford dealers part truck. I come from the Cummins world and have always been intrigued by the 6.4 but never wanted to mess with them. So I am not sure of the quirks to look for before buying. Plan on making it a short bed eventually but mechanically, other than the basics, what do I look for?

Thanks in advance!

take the oil fill cap off with the engine running and check blow by, look for dried coolant around the degas bottle and on the firewall above the turbos. remove air intake and check shaft play on atmo turbo. check reverse engagement delay. get an oasis report on it for sure and see what has been done to it.

10-4 that's what I was looking for. What kind of time am I looking for on reverse engagement? Delayed is obviously an issue but what about stiffness and a little sluggish? This truck is 400 miles from home.

What he said. I'm assuming it's an emissions on truck? Front cover issues with egr on trucks and rocker/lifter/cam troubles with dpf on trucks.

The truck is bone stock. No tune, deletes, or anything to speak of. It's about the smallest truck Ford makes in diesel and that's exactly what I'm looking for. I have had single cab short bed gas trucks and loved them but never a RCSB diesel. Drove plenty of them and can't stand not having one so this is how it begins. Plus I need another truck since the motor is out of my dodge and everyone is laying off like crazy in the oil field. May not have a company truck much longer. Thank you for all the tips and I'll defiantly look into it all. Jumping on a plane in the morning and should be looking at it some time close to noon tomorrow.

Thanks sootie and strokindiesel. Going to have to get used to not throwing tons of fuel air and nitrous to it. Learning curve for sure.

Priced at $19,6XX but that's not what I'm paying. I think the bottom dollar is a little to high but it's what I'm wanting.

finding a truck that's EXACTLY what you want, especially if it's tough to find, is worth an EASY $3k over book without any guilt or 2nd guessing IMO

I would begrudgingly go high teens on that truck because of the color, options, and mileage

I'll agree 100%. I stole my last two trucks, it's time to pay what it's worth for once. Also, the final price is fare and that doesn't mean I won't push for it to get cheaper but it's not a big deal.

I'm super friggin' jealous man. I want that exact truck. Color and all.

I love my reg cab 4x4, but I want a reg cab 2wd shorty also. I really want a silver one so that I don't have to do custom PTM work on the platinum tailgate and handles again! LOL
