I just bought a 7.3 from california, it has a 4" down pipe into a 5" exhaust. No idea what kind of exhaust..it is aluminized not stainless. Purchased from delaer.No cat and I believe no muffler. What i want to know is about 3rd of the way down the 5" pipe there a inline can..about a foot long a little wider than the 5" pipe, maybe 5 1/2" - 6". Anyone know what it is? Muffler...some kinda of exhaust cleaner im not awhere of? The truck is absolutley mint...I get 0 smoke on start up, no smoke at all in cold weather start, black or white. I dont know if thats due to the excellent condition of motor or the can thats on there.
I do know from autuo check that the truck has consistently passed california emission/smog tests. Im sure he could have switched it evertime to get the sticker. I live in NH so no need for it if it does not need to be there and contributes to higher egt's.
