Carrier bearing question

I'm putting a new carrier bearing on for a buddy tonight on his for 08. He said that the autoparts guy told him a carrier bearing for his truck is a dealer only part. The local dealership mechanic said that an 07 one from the parts store will work. Is this true? He said that the dealer part was like 200 bucks and the one he bought was thirty something.

Something to look out for - the later build trucks have an aluminum hanger bearing frame, and should be replaced with same.
