Changing rear end gears

Have a friend who wants to change out his 4.10s (2008, 6.4L) to 3.73s in a 4X4.
Is it necessary to change out the gears in the front differential as well?

Yes, the axles need to match in order for 4 wheel drive to work.

His truck is already in the shop for ring and pinion work. Ball park guess as to what it might cost for a change out to 3.73s?

Last I heard average cost of a gear swap was close to $1k. However that was a few years ago, and I have never personally had it done so I can't give a definite answer

Your going to pay about $1000-$1200 for a "shop" to swap gears...

They need to match... Try driving on the road in 4x4 with 3.73's in the front and 4.30's in the back... Its not fun! LOL
