Hey guys. so my truck wasnt starting, narrowed it down to the glow plugs and replaced them. after 3 days of my truck not starting, it started up with ease. I was letting my truck run and warm up for about 20-30 minutes and my truck sounded like it wanted to stall. i turned off the truck checked the fuel bowl to see if it was getting fuel which it was and started the truck up again. idled fine for 5 minutes and started doing the same thing again. i have no clue what is going on. any help would be great. thanks!

Given you've been under the valve covers recently, the first place I would check is UVCH and all associated connections.
What codes do you have?

He might be getting some fuel restriction from possible gelled fuel in the tank. If rechecking the uvch doesn't fix it could the fuel gelling be a possibility. It hasn't left the 30's for about 5 days around here in northeast pa. I would imagine jersey would be about the same.

I know man. It's friggin cold. Glad I replaced my glow plugs over the summer. I think my trucks hates me for starting it with 50 degree oil temps. To the OP some diesel 911 in the tank might help you out some. It was mid 20's when I left work an hour ago.

so i checked all my connections theyre all clean and on properly. i started the truck up and it turned over with ease. let it warm up for 15 minutes, no check engine light or rough idle. went to go drive it and withing 2 miles the check engine light came on again and rough idle. so i turned around and came home. anything else i should check? I could be wrong doesnt seem like a fuel issue... thanks

Well I gave up playing around trying to figure it out on my own. I took my truck to my local auto zone to have my codes read... Truck stalled twice while idling and the after that turned over and started normally. Autozone couldn't find any codes. I've been driving the truck all day, no more rough idle or check engine light. Needless to say I'm happy it's running right and really confused at the same time.... Really weird. Thanks for all your help!

Get a good diag tool, not Auto Zone, and chances are you will see the P1316 code, along with others. That will be the place to start. Run the buzz test and see what you have once complete.

x2 on the buzz test.

When you say you Checked all connections, Did you pull the valve cover and check the plug that goes into the gasket under the VC? the ones outside can be connected but it seems the ones inside are the ones that work themselves loose.

ex: I was on mile 12 of a 20 mile trip pulling a 8k pounds and got a CEL, I pulled over and the truck died. I ran a buzz test and only had 4 injectors buzz, I ran it again and had 3 buzz. I tried to start it and it started, running like piss. checked all outside connectors and they were good. didn't have the tools to pull vc so I limped it the rest of the way. about 1 mile from town it got better, I was up to 7 inj then . dropped the trailer and pulled into my bro in laws shop. yanked vc and did the 50 cent mod. problems solved.

Im wondering with it coming and going if your connections under the vc are coming loose.

there should be some good PSD supporting shops in Jersey isnt there? Perhaps a PSA member with AE or a scan gauge?

I would continue to try and resolve the issue. The next time it stops running, it may not refire and you may not be at the local Auto Zone. Good Luck!
