I've developed a weird clicking/popping noise. I can hear it from the driver side but not from the passenger side. I can pop the hood and listen really close and it sounds to be coming from the passenger side area. Its not loud at all by no means, but loud enough to be heard.

Its not a steady noise. Doesn't sound like it has a rythym or anything. But it does get faster as the rpms go up. I listened to it and its about like this.
2-3 clicks/second at idle
3-4 clicks/second at 1200 rpm
4-5 clicks/second at 1700 rpm
After that the motor is to loud to hear it anymore.

There is no performance issues, lag, extreme monitored items. All things seem to be in check. But that clicking. Driving me insane.

Truck has 116,000 miles on it. Is an 08 job 2. Spartan 310, no limit intake, 5 inch exhaust studs, CAC tube.
Just changed the oil 300 miles ago and didn't notice it before then. 15w-40 motor craft oil
And its around 30°-55°s here now.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

if it's the "typewriter" tick that the 6.7's and some 6.4's do after an oil change, a friend of mine just had the cab off of his 2010 for a failed HPFP... his had been doing the tick after oil change for the past few months.

pulled the valve covers off while everything was apart and found a few worn rockers. replaced rockers and bridges and no tick now. going to drain and refill the oil tomorrow and see what it does (oil is only 500 miles old and was ticking when the cab went up)

he called me today and said the truck ticked faintly a couple times after a 9hr drive yesterday, so he's skipping the oil change...

oil type doesn't seem to matter. the ticking typically appears shortly after an oil change and goes away as the oil gets some miles on it

it happens to 6.4's and 6.7's

Ford says it's normal

I have noticed in most of my vehicles, diesel or gas, with new oil they make a little ticking noise when cold until the oil is sheared a bit.. IDK why but it happens..
