Cold start issue.

Buddies 00 was starting hard. Intake relay is fried and when doing a scan 2468 cylinder glow plugs aren't working. My initial thought was valve cover harness was having an issue, injectors work fine still. Instead of a regular relay he has a box about 2 inches by 4 inches with harnesses plugged into it. I have yet to see one of these an am wondering if something in there is shot instead? He said its a California model

you have a glowplug module, not uncommon to fail, its an awful design.

Yep otherwise there is no way the PCM could detect the glow plugs that were not working. With a relay its all or nothing. That is really the only added benefit to the module over the relay and at a cost of over $100 more than a good relay. I agree not worth it but you are stuck with it unless you swap the whole engine harness and PCM.
