I'd like to get you guys input on a little build I have going on. I'm building an F450 basically from the ground up, and by that I mean I pretty much started with nothing and have been buying parts and assemblies from here and there, a lot of Craigslist!!! ....I found a 2010 F450 4x4 with low miles a guy bought just for the engine and transmission, after he took what he needed I bought the rest of it from him. Now the gearing is pretty steep being some 4.88s, but I'll be running the 6R140 along with a gearvendor attached to the back of the transfer case so there's that!!! I have a gearvendor on my 2002 F350 4x4 with 4.10s and absolutely love this thing!!! All these years and it's been problem fee!!!! Anyways, along with the 4.88s I'll be running a bit taller tire, some 245/70R19.5s (33.5") apposed to the stock size 225/70R19.5s (32"). I mention this as going to need to decide on the turbos, yes turbos!!! I want compound this bitch!!! Not looking to make a race truck out of this by any means as it's main purpose will be to tow my 48' gooseneck race car trailer and my 35' gooseneck boat trailer, that along with the boat of course!!! So the question is, with this steep gearing, for the high pressure turbo should I use a VGT or should I go with a non VGT??? Now of course I would like for this thing to be as responsive as possible!!! I guess I'm wanting my cake and to eat it too, I mean who doesn't these days??? So with all that being said, I'd like to get some opinions from you guys who have a lot of experiance with these oil burners. Oh yeah, one other detail, this engine will not have the stock whimpy rods, I am going with some brand new 6.0 rods along with ARP rod bolts. I'm going this route as I just can't justify spending $3500 for a set of billet rods on an engine that's not going to be used as a drag racer. It has been said, when done right the 6.0 rods in a 6.7 are good for up to 750hp and I don't feel the need to push this thing anywhere pass that. I more after torque than anything else, but I'd still like to have some decent power as well!!! You know how we want it "ALL" these days!!! Anyways, what would be the two best turbos for this application??? And yes, I will be going with dual fuel pumps just as well.... Any thoughts, concerns??? And to add to this, not turbo related, but knowing how these F450s ride like **** with no load, I've been busy building my own custom fourlink rear suspension with dual air bags on each side....Once I'm done with the rear I'm going to be converting the front coil springs to air bags just as well. Trying to get this thing to at least ride as well as my current F350 CC DRW 4x4.. If I can get it anywhere as close to this one or if I'm lucky a tad bit better, I'd be a happy camper for sure!!! And the interior of this truck is getting a full treatment also!!! I've got a late model Platinum dash with the provisions for the 8" screen. I have yet to purchase all the sync 3 stuff just yet, but I have found a guy locally who says he can supply me with it all and get it all programmed and working as it should. When done, I hoping this truck will look just like a brand new 2016 inside and out!!! And the best part is, it'll be all paid for!!! As nice as they are, I just can't see spending 70k plus on a new truck, but that's just me!!! Ok, and now for some turbo opinions please??? To VGT or not to VGT??? And sizes of both would be very much appreciated as well!!! :naughty:
