Long story short, a buddy wrecked his truck last week. Its an E99, 7.3, 4wd, CCSB. Pulling a GN trailer, lost it, and tore up the rear of the cab pretty bad. Rest of the truck is fine. Insurance totaled it and he bought it back. He is keeping the engine and ZF6 for whatever reason, but i'm getting the rest fairly cheap. Axles will be getting pulled to put under my truck.

What i'm trying to decide on is do i keep the truck and build it to either sell, or DD. Plan would be throw a good 7.3/4r in it, 05+ suspension and front end swap, and of course get a good cab/title for it. I know i can get the drivetrain for around $1k, stuff for the suspension for $1k, and a bare cab for $500. And i think we could paint it(nothing crazy and doing it ourselves) for around $700 So all in all i'd be looking at $5500ish. Could i sell it for $10k?

Or if i were to part it out, how much value would be in it? I know nothing about SD's so not sure how valuable this stuff is. AFAIK there is no rust or dents on the body, aside from the recent damage. I'd be selling at least a set of front doors, front clip, shortbed, frame, and dash/electronics.

A clean, low mile (as in less than 175k) 7.3 is gold in the market right now.

Everything is pretty easy to work with on the superduty's. If all it needed was a cab and you could get your hands on one easily, put a good paint job on it and swap the interior over, then it may make a good profit. It wouldn't be an overly difficult task to complete either, with exception to actually picking up the cab without a 2 post lift. Put an engine and trans in it while the cab is off. And if it were me, I would leave the axles under it and put the 05' axles under your OBS. Less moving axles around and the truck your keeping has a better ride. Win, win.

Doing the work doesn't bother me, we have a forklift, skid loader, access to 2 posts, etc...

Body wise i'm pretty sure it just needs a cab shell and a passenger rear door, i think the rest of the doors are fine but again i haven't seen it yet.

And i'd love 05 axles in my OBS, have a buddy that did the swap and its amazing. But i pull and race my truck, and i have no desire to throw money at it to keep it from hopping.

Well i may go through with this re-build, picking up a complete 180k mile 7.3 tonight for $650, if its in as good of shape as the guy says it is. May also have a trans and t-case cheap.
