Posted the same question over on the PS.org sight but figured I'd check here as well.

So the question has probably been asked multiple times but, what's your opinion,

2010 F250 6.4 "loaded", stock, and with 20,000 miles or new off the lot 6.7?

Haven't seen the truck in person yet but sounds like it is a pretty high trim level. New would be either a 14 or 15. The 10 has been lightly driven and would be approximately 1/2 the price of new. So what's your thoughts?

Currently I'm driving an 06 DMax with EFI Live, EGR blocker, 4" turbo back. 125K miles.

Thanks

if you want a powerhouse the 2010 is gonna make more power with a tune. dpf delete and egr delete. I like the interior of a the 2010's over the 11-14's. and i would rather save the money and go used, its not worth buying a new truck. many millionaire's don't even buy new, they buy 3-4 years old in like new condition for half the price or less. who knows maybe you are a millionaire or billionaire. either way I would go with the 2010, and keep the dmax.

Thanks for the opinions. Decidedly not a millionaire... What is your reasoning for waiting for the 15s? Due to the improvements that are making I'm assuming? I don't have a real strong opinion right now on the interiors between the 2010s and new ones. My father has a 2011 and my buddy has an 08 and they seem similar since I haven't spent a huge amount of time in either. I know the 6.4 is easier to make big reliable power with but I haven't decided important that is. I will more than likely delete whatever I get once any warranty is over but my main intention for that is longevity and millage. Although that seems to be harder to justify with the 6.7 now vs. the 6.4. Seems to be pretty much a no brainer on the 6.4s. What is you reason for recommending keeping my Duramax? Thanks again.

idk sell the duramax if you don't like it, I would think if you like it you would just keep it, if you need or want the money towards the new truck, then sell it....i also don't know how many vehicles you already have, a second or third vehicle isn't bad to have. the dashes are different, headlights changed, switches are different, hvac controls are different, dash got bigger, other then that I think they are pretty close to the same. I just wouldn't spend the extra money on a brand new truck. the used truck is the much better deal.

The 6.7 is a more reliable with the emissions system intact, gets better fuel economy with the emissions intact, and has more "umph" with the emissions intact. 6.4 is an animal tuned and deleted, but in my opinion, it's a dog stock. It really depends on your financial situation. I like to buy new because I know when the oil was changed and who is putting diesel in the tank versus a gas slip up or accidental DEF in the tank situation. The '10 will be decent on fuel because of the 3.55 rear compared to earlier 6.4s. '15s should be out by the end of spring 2014.

If your D/Max is an LBZ, you should be able to sell it for a nice profit. They are in high demand where I live. As for updates, the '15 will get a new fuel system and upgraded turbo charger. Power will be up stock. New colors will be added to the lineup but no body redesigns.

6.4 and reliable don't belong on the same sentence. Too many of them sitting in the shop waiting for a bottom end. Most wish they were a millionaire when the 6.4 comes a knockin...

I think most of the problems people have with vehicles is maintenance, as in following the intervals in the manual. Dont maintain, you have problems. Ex. 7500+ miles on the 6.4 between oil changes. Way too much on a stock truck. Modified I still think is too much, but I am old school. I had a 6.0 that I loved, maintenance was the key in my eyes. 5000 miles unloaded 3-3500 miles loaded. Coolant filter with a flush every 2 years. No head gasket problems or EGR cooler problems.
Delete, Coolant Filter, Oil Changes. The truck will live a long happy life.

Not allways the case.. I had two 6.0's and I followed a perfect maintenance schedule to a T and had problem after problem.. Some trucks run good for whatever reason without issues.. IMO, 6.0's and 6.4's are a luck of the draw, the 6.7 seems to be pretty reliable and most people can live with leaving it stock throughout the warranty period because it's pretty stout to begin with..

Between my dad brother and myself we had 3 6.0's 3 6.4's and 1 6.7 now. None had engine problems. My dad's 6.0 needed a turbo though. All were maintained like I said above. Crap in the coolant causes problems and should be flushed with the first oil change.

they're all luck of the draw... plenty of 6.7 problems out there too. They've got the kinks pretty well worked out and they're certainly more reliable than the 6.4's in stock form.

With that said, I'd get the 6.4 if it's indeed half price and fully loaded with only 20k miles. I'm having a hard time seeing that as a fully loaded 2010 with low miles is still a $30-35k truck and you can get a brand new Platinum for under $55k (not sure what '15 pricing will be)

my first experiences were with a 2011 6.7L in stock form I for one summer to tow our boat with, its a very quite sounding and very impressive truck/engine... it towed so well for me that at the end of summer I went out and bought a 2008 6.1L thinking that it would be the same preforming truck and boy was I wrong... the first time I really drove my truck after the test drive I noticed a major lack in performance when compared to the 2011 and I was really sad not knowing if I was the right decision getting the truck I came the the forum and started reading and reading... After a ton of reading I started convincing myself I was still happy with it after reading everyones reviews with their tuned 6.4's thinking to myself that couldn't be true but wanting to believe what I read I ordered a tuner and exhaust. Fast forwards 2 weeks and my DPF delete exhaust and minimaxx came! I got them installed instantly not thinking that they were going to do much coming from gassers in the past LOL WELL when I picked the truck up from my buddies shop it was a completely different animal! fuel consumption went way down compaired to wen I first got it and the whole experience was more than I ever expected making me fall in love with the truck to this day and that was 2 years ago! Now going back to the stock 2011 6.7L which is still in our immediate family and its the one that feels like its slow and lacking power LOL
I know I am reviving a old post but I thought it might help someone else in the future :)

I was recently in this same situation. I found a 2010 with 43k miles and loaded so I went with it. I saved $20k buying a 4 year old truck and don't have urea to worry about. I had mine professionally inspected before I bought it just to make sure it was solid. I have no regrets so far.
