ok, tonite on the way from a couple lawn accounts it sure seemed like my truck was shifting weird, kind of like at 60mph it would shift from 1500 up to 2000 and back. Its run fine for the past 3 years I've had it, I only drive it after work for my lawn accounts pulling a 14ft trailer with a zero turn, couple of push mowers, etc, so its not like its really heavy.

So I get home, throw the mt2500 scanner on it, to see if anything pops up, and while doing the koer test, it just dies, says test aborted, so I just fire it right back up (thank god), and proceed. I was able to pull a bit of info off the transmission side, then I went to the engine side, started to pull in some info, and then it said it had no communication, and did that 3 more times I tried to pull it again, so I gave up. Shut off truck, fired it back up about 3 more times and called it a night.

I pulled:
continuous memory code
po470 exhaust pres snsr ck fault
and
engine running codes-fix second
p0476 exh pres ctrl valve perform

under the transmission side I pulled this information:
ap(v) .53
engoiltemp (v) 1.83
engoiltemp (f) 151
elecprsctrl (psi) 5
epc (v) 8.19
sdcs (or sccs)--
tranfluidtmp (v) 0.84
sccs (v) 6.70
tcc (%) 0
transrange (v) 4.51
torque (lbft) 32
aclpedl (v) 0.53
brakeonoff-off
vehspdsnsr (mph) 0
4x4 low - off
cpp/tcs- on
parkbrakeapply-off
coastclutchsol-on
torqconvcl-off
ivsidle-off
trnctrlindlamp-off
shiftsol1-on
shiftsol2-off
gear-1st
cruise-off
transrange - park
idle was 700rpm

driveability test showed
ap(v)- 0.53
baro (v)- 4.54
arpmdes - 0
baro kpa-98
baro hz- 121
exhbackprs (psi)20
epb(v) 1.57
engoiltemp (v) 1.86
epc (v)8.14

then I lost communication and couldn't get any more info.

alright you guru's does this tell me anything at all?

thanks ahead of time for any input.

has a new international cps about a year old, but in reality it probably has 500-1000 miles on it, truck doesn't get driven much, usually sits in the garage.

turbo has 175k on it, at least that's the mileage on the truck.

truck runs fine, drives fine, idles fine, just started doing the shifting issue tonite, only did it 2 times then on the stretch in front of my addition I ran it up to 60-65 and held it and no shifting back and forth, or maybe it could have been the tq conv locking and unlocking?

If you run the truck down the road with the scanner hooked up it should tell you if the tc is locking and unlocking or lack there of. I would be more concerned about it stalling.

but the problem is I can't get it to communicate now, when I plug it in with key 2 it doesn't communicate, any ideas why it doesn't communicate to the pcm now?

torqconvcl-off

is that what I'm looking at on the scanner to see if its unlocking and locking back in?
if I can get it to communicate that is.

Most likely that is what you will have to look at. Im at a bit of a loss for the reason it is not connecting. What scan tool are you using, just the off the shelf cheep one or a good scan tool?

I have used it before and watched all the parameters etc with no issues on this truck, now for some reason I have issues.

i would bet your issue is your torque converter unlocking and re locking. you probably have an issue in the harness somewhere. i had a similar issue but it would unlock when i hit the turn signal. because i had led lights in and the base of the light shorted so when i hit the signal it fed to the brake light wiring and thinking i was on the brakes it unlocked the tc. i changed the bulbs and it was all happyness and sunshine again

I'll have to crawl around and check the harness under there. I did remove a banks transcommand back around 2 years ago, so I'll check the pins and make sure they are seated properly still.

Would a bulb out cause this type of issue? I looked last nite and didn't see anything out except for a front amber but its been out forever now that I think about it.

I'll check the harness tonite, isn't it a 2 piece harness? like the harness that plugs into the tranny plugs into a different harness? then where does it go

i couldnt tell you for sure, i had zero issues before i put the bulbs in, they were fine for a few weeks then it started, i chased it for a while till i noticed one of the bulbs was sitting crooked in the plug. i pulled it out and the plastic base was all burnt and distorted, went to the parts store and got some plain bulbs and it was problem solved. i wish i could be more help. but thats all the knowledge i have so i would check them. i only had them in the brake lights though.

if the scanner isnt communicating there is a fuse for the obdII port check power to the cigarette lighter, they use the same fuse. if the lighter doesnt work nor will the obdII port

I'll have to double check the lighter, it did work 2 days ago, at least my phone was charging, and I removed my 2nd aux plug and installed my 6 pos switch in its spot, I'll check and see.

I plugged it back in tonite and got a p0605 code. I'm researching right now what that is.

Also, I spoke at length with RacerX's Tom from here, and he gave me some things to check. He said it sounds to him like the PCM is commanding the torque convertor to unlock and relock, and he thinks it is a wiring issue, or possibly a brake light etc issue.

I ran out of time tonite to check it all out. Hopefully this week I can get to it.

ok, 605 shows to be due to having a chip so I'm guessing that is no concern.

Guess I'll start pulling wires and see what I can find.

Definately check the harness where you removed the transcommand at, if you have an area that is getting grounded off and on, that will cause what your seeing. Remove your chip and see if the same shifting issue is present.

Any one of the brake light bulbs will cause the converter to unlock if it goes out.

thanks tony, I've got to find time to do this, but work has been too good right now, lol.

Tom at racerx told me it can cause permanent damage to the convertor also (IIRC)

ok, checked things out last nite, pulled the harness and check continuity and it seems fine, couldnt find any breaks in the wire or cover, removed the protector from the harness and all the wires are clean and look to be in good condition.

Chip is in nice and tight, so I need to run it again and see if it does it again.

See if it happens when your not towing the trailer.

well, I mowed all day today with my truck and trailer, put 150 miles on it, almost all highway with no issues.

Really odd thing is, tonite my back up reverse lights started working, they've never worked since I bought the truck.

Racer thanks so much for your help over the phone, as soon I know the problem is gone with my torque convertor lock/unlock issue, I will be ordering a new valve body and tranny pan conversion kit from you.
