When driving my truck at any speed every once in a while it cuts out very quickly. The first time this happened I replaced the cps with one from a local parts store. Fixed the problem for a little while and then it would start again. I have replaced the cps multiple times and finally got a Motorcraft sensor. About the same time I also did an update on the pcm, changed the icp sensor, and cleared all codes. The code that keeps coming back is for cam position sensor signal intermittent. I have thrown enough sensors at it to be pretty sure that's not the problem. Going to check the wiring but need to know if there is any specific areas in the wiring I need to check for chafing or broken wires. Really need to get this fixed.

Checking the wiring would be my next move as well. Follow the harness all the way up and look for damage. What is the actual code it is throwing? Any other codes besides the CPS one?

The code is p0344. It has two other codes but they are for the ebpv but I did the ebpv ****** with new pedestal and outlet housing. Haven't installed a resistor in the circuit yet to fool the pcm.

What should I be getting for voltage at the sensor? Is one wire supposed to have battery voltage? I'm starting to think I may have a short. The green wire that says 12 volts doesnt show continuity when you read from the sensor to the main plug that goes to to the idm but I'm getting 12 volts at the sensor.

On the sensor pigtail pin c is 12 volts, pin b is 5 volts, and pin a is 4.2 milli volts. Does this sound right? I took all the tape and wire loom off the harness all the way to the plug up by the fuse box and can't find a bare wire spot anywhere. There is a few spots where the insulation looks like its been pinched but that's about it.

I think the only other things I could have problems with would be the idm or the actual gear on the end of the cam. Any other ideas?

You could still have a bad sensor from ford. I've had it happen. Unless the ends of the sensors you have tried have been chewed up, I doubt the cam gear is walking.

Seems like a game of roulette to see which sensor works. It's crazy that these are so common to fail.

Thanks for the info. My only question is should I be getting 12 volts at the pigtail with the sensor unplugged? I figured that the wire with return voltage should show 0 if it's not plugged in to the sensor. All my voltage readings were with key on engine off and the sensor unplugged.

paint the end of the cps's so if the cam gear is playing whack-a-mole with the cps, you will see the rub marks.. trust me, it can happen and screw up the entire diagnosis process.. i wont have that issue anymore.
