I just bought a truck for a good price with a cracked piston. Lookin at my options for fixing. I bid on a toalted truck with 95k for a motor swap, but if that dosnt come through what would you do? Replace the 1, Set of hd coated pistons, or shortblock? Anything else i havnt thought of yet?

Are you planning on keeping the truck or flipping it? Also depends on if any other pistons are melted and if the cylinder walls are ojay

If the cylinders are ok I would do hd coated pistons. If the walls are damaged, see if it can be bored out and then get oversize coated pistons to fit the new bored. If it's FUBAR the get a short block and get hd coated pistons

Hd pistons will work for any stock fuel/turbo truck best bang for buck VR gasket set is about 550 does not come with hpfp cover gasket/harness 120 ish plan for full rebuild on heads new valves & guides ect.. about 900 also plan on new rockers, lifters and push rods 6.4 eat valve train like candy I normally get rods and mains from ford under 160 bucks also budget new timing cover and water pump and thermostats another 750 bucks

don't waist your time on used 6.4 they are all junk every 6.4 I have ever torn apart needs rebuilt better to just rebuild what you have "IF" the block is good. If you build it you can fix a lot of internationals mistakes

You'll be fine with a machined and coated piston. We have hard anodized forged. But I only have a small number of them running and even less in street trucks. And none with anywhere near 100k.

We've got several 1000+ hp trucks with our machined and coated pistons.

Bigpowr your pistons delipped too or just coated?

I have stage 1 cam's and valve train kits including lifters in stock as well :)

I have stock bore HD pistons which are delipped from the factory , offered in raw or coated , in stock. as well , I have machined , delipped pistons , coated or uncoated in various overbore sizes , with or without valve reliefs .

yea just off top of my head on prices. I have built 3 of these in last month. If you shop around you can get good deals. stage 1 valve train kit is a plus. I personally would not waist money on ported heads for street truck. money is better spent elsewhere
