I had just paid to have 4.88s installed in my 06. Made it 10k miles and then wheel hopped it off road really bad. Shortly after it Started whining going down the roadand continued to get worse. That was my first sign. So by the time I got it apart to look the pattern was pretty easy to see. I was able to see the original wear marks and then as it got slop in the pinion it basically started to taper the edges of the teeth. I did not fix it myself though so I don't have any info on install for ya. We have a driveline guy at work and I figured it would last longer if he did it. He did mention if I had caught it earlier he could have reused the ring and pinion. I like to take stuff apart. Back together usually not my specialty.
