Donaldson ELF7405 causing excessive oil pressure?

Hoping this gets more exposure here than in the OBS section.

A little background info, my truck has always had good oil pressure. Cold idle 50psi, hot idle 20-25 psi and 50 psi hot running down the highway. Until yesterday I always used a Wix 51734XE oil filter. For the past 3 years I've used Schaeffers 9K 5-40 oil exclusively.

Yesterday I needed an oil change and decided to try the Donaldson ELF7405 as I've read very positive results about it.

With the Donaldson I'm still getting 50 psi cold. Hot idle is now 25-30 psi and 55psi hot on the highway. However I noticed that the pressure does not fall back to 55 until oil temps are nearly 190°. On my way home I noted a pressure of 65 psi @ 150° with the engine turning roughly 2200 rpm. Hot it's also very quick to jump from idle pressure up to 55.

My biggest concern is that cold the pressure shoots past 75 psi. And by cold I mean overnight temps in mid to upper 60's.

I did notice that now my oil temp has fallen a little. Before it would regularly run 10° over coolant. Now it almost matches coolant temp. Only change being the oil filter.

Oil pressure and temperature are both taken from ports in the filter housing.

I'm curious to see what others have noted when switching to this filter. I'm also wondering if my excessive pressure esp when cold is going to be a problem. I'm worried about blowing a gasket or seal in the oil cooler assy or hpop reservoir.

I have used them exclusively on the 96.
I can not say on the oil press findings.
Currently out of the country so cant check them.
My oil/coolant temps are always within a few degrees once up to operating temp.
Main thing I noticed by switching to this filter from motorcraft is the oil stays honey
colored much longer then before. Sorry thats probably not much help.

Does anyone know what pressure the filter head bypass opens at? 64° Sat morning and I was holding a steady 85psi for a while. Previously on warmer mornings I'd hit 75psi and it would seem to hang there unless I really gave it some throttle then it would keep rising.

Still feeling uneasy with such high "cold" pressure. Wondering what it will be like when it's 20° out. Starting to think the FL9691 would have been a better choice. Although I must admit with about 1000 miles on it the oil is still a bright green color. With the previous Wix filter it would be tinged black by now.

I'm not worried about the filter bursting, it should be good to 200+psi. I do not like the thought of so much oil going thru the bypass instead of the filter when cold.

I've been running that filter for 25-ish thousand miles now, at well below 0*F in the winter, with no ill effects. Lowest I've recorded was a -25*F cold start, and no issues. Amsoil 15-40 year round.
