E40D oil?

Just got a above stock rebuild and what would be a good oil and how many quarts for first fill up

Any MERCON V fluid will work fine. I like Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.

You want to put 8 quarts in, then start the engine for 1 minute. Then turn the engine off and add four more quarts. Then use the dipstick to get it full. It will take one or two more.

Great thanks. At the parts store they said 6 quarts i didn't think that was right for a full tear down

You need 18 quarts for a full fill. 6 quarts is almost enough to change what's in the pan.
