Welp last night my rear decided to call it quits. Knew it was coming as my pinion seal leak worsened over the past few weeks. Question I have is I'm picking up a rear from an 04. I know my rear has a different brake set up and different yoke for the drive shaft. And of course different lug nuts since the thread pitch changed. Now I know I can swap my yoke no biggie. Lug nuts well i got enough laying around so that's not a problem. But the brakes. Do I have to transfer over my goofy flip flop set up or will everything just plumb up to the newer style brakes. Thanks for any input

I'm putting an '05 axle in my E99 soon. The parking brake cables are different. The lug nuts are different. The driveshaft is different.

You need the '04 parking brake cables from the brakes to the frame, everything else should bolt right up. You may need to swap the sensor from the E99 axle to the '04 to get the speedometer to work and the abs light not to be on.

As for swapping the yoke for the companion flange, it's risky business. If you get the pinion preload wrong, you'll nuke the gears and pinion bearings. Also, if your E99 pinion seal was leaking, the sealing surface on the yoke may be damaged requiring a sleeve or replacement. The better option is to have the driveshaft modified to the newer companion flange style connection, which is a good but stronger than the old U-bolts.

When I got my axle, I got the driveshaft too, and even though it's for a short bed and I have a long bed, I'm cool with doing a little driveshaft work.

Sent by my right thumb!

I got it figured out. Did away with the parking brake never use it and the shoes were trashed anyway. I changed the yokes properly and reset the pinion load. so far so good. Truck sits more then it moves thanks for the reply tho.
